Markham, Ontario – (December 7th 2017) Enghouse Networks announced that it has been selected to deliver an integrated network management system for a strategic power utility in Asia. The project incorporates Enghouse’s NetBoss performance and fault management solution as well as trouble ticketing, workflow, and process re-engineering.

Power utilities operate and maintain their own mission critical telecommunications network infrastructure to manage the electrical grid, ensuring that essential services are delivered without interruption. All network traffic to monitor and control the grid, as well as provide voice and data communications for company operations, runs on an array of equipment from different manufacturers. The diversity of these multi-vendor networks makes managing them extremely complex. Using an overlay network management system that automates and simplifies tasks for network operations personnel significantly improves service quality while reducing costs.

Performance management is especially critical as utilities transition from traditional TDM to IP-based networks. It delivers proactive network performance measurements such as packet loss, jitter, latency, and bandwidth for IP networks that can be early indicators of service degradation, while also delivering measurements such as errored seconds and severely errored seconds for TDM networks. The NetBoss Performance system presents these real-time values and also enables historical reports for investigations, as well as future projections for capacity planning. Threshold crossing indicators are immediately forwarded to the NetBoss XT fault management system, which monitors the entire network, for action by network operations staff.

“Fault management alone is no longer good enough to proactively manage hybrid utility telecom networks migrating from TDM to IP” said Rich Pappalardo, VP Business Development at Enghouse Networks. “Comprehensive performance management is absolutely critical for identifying and rectifying network issues before they cause service interruptions. NetBoss Performance paired with NetBoss XT provides the ability to significantly improve service quality and availability to meet the stringent requirements demanded by next generation power utilities.”
