Webinar description
In most electric utility substations, SCADA and teleprotection are dependent on TDM networks with SONET/SHD as their core transport networks. Carriers have announced end-of-life for many of these technologies. The physical components of SONET circuit packs are no longer manufactured, and accessing the spares is increasingly difficult. Dealing with carriers as they already planned to discontinue support for legacy TDM services would be another growing concern.
The knowledge and expertise required to maintain and manage legacy technologies are fading away as many experienced workers near retirement. One way to address this is migration from TDM to IP and packet networks. Such a migration needs extra caution by an electric utility. It should not disrupt the current operation and should occur in isolation to prevent propagating any fault to the entire grid and causing a mass outage. The inability of legacy tools to visualize communications network components and conditions is an essential impediment for dealing with such concerns.
Watch this webinar where Enghouse Networks explain how an advanced Network Inventory Management solution will pave the road and support a smooth migration at mission-critical networks such as electric utilities.
